The great book editor and publisher Robert Giroux has died at the age of 94.He was a contemporary of Thomas Merton at Columbia University and later edited Merton's best-selling early autobiography "The Seven Storey Mountain." In 1998, Giroux wrote the forward to the 50th Anniversary edition of "Mountain."
Giroux was editor-in-chief at Harcourt when the volume was published in 1948. His name was later added to the publishing house Farrar, Straus & Giroux.
He also was the publisher of Flannery O'Connor.
