Greater Love

From February 2000 to June 2003, I worked as a case investigator at the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission. It's the Pittsburgh-based foundation that awards the Carnegie Medal to individuals throughout the United States and Canada who risk their lives to save the lives of others -- often from burning vehicles, burning buildings, drownings and assaults.

Yesterday, the Hero Fund announced its latest awardees, including four local men who saved two men from drowning in the Ohio River. The P-G's Steve Levin has the story.

Since the Hero Fund was founded by Andrew Carnegie in 1904, it has awarded more than 9,000 Carnegie Medals. Each medal carries the bible verse "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13).
