Bookends

For Catholics, particularly those with a devotion to the Blessed Mother, this workweek has "Mary" bookends:

Monday (Dec. 8) was the Solemnity of The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It's a holy day of obligation for Catholics in the United States. Friday (Dec. 12) is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the "Patroness of the Americas."

On Monday, over at Busted Halo, this image of the Madonna and Child created in 2004 by my old college buddy Anthony Santella, was used to illustrate the solemnity on the site's Advent Calendar:
